Jon enjoyed playing Forza but struggled with multiplayer races. His journey to learn more about racing brought him here. An online racing school for games like Forza? He admits he had doubts but gave some of the free content a shot…
“I was watching your Catalunya video where you explained an easy way to find the racing line. I paused the video, loaded up Forza and knocked 1.5 seconds off my lap time and beat my rival.”
That was his first step – but he was still far from where he wanted to be.
The Final Straw
When I asked why he decided to join The Keys to Speed he shared a surprising experience on the track.
“Late one night I got overtaken repeatedly. I mean this guy would slow down just to pass me again. And on the final lap he took off and disappeared just to wait at the finish line for me. My mind was made up after that race.” He joined The Keys to Speed that night and started devouring the video lessons and material.
His Favorite Lessons
“One of my aha moments was during the brake drills. You showed us the proper way to get the most out of our brakes without locking up.”
He told me how this one tip allowed him to leave many other drivers behind in the corners. Jon would no longer brake too early or overshoot the turn.
His other favorite lesson was learning how the power band worked, which gave him the ability to downshift for maximum control and speed.
“Shifting and braking are second nature to me now.”
Watching Himself Disappear in the Rear-view Mirror
It kept getting better from there as Jon dropped 13 seconds on Watkins Glen, 5 seconds on Long Beach short loop, 8 more seconds on Burnese Alps, you get the idea…
“I literally saw my ghost disappear behind me in the first few corners. The best part about it is that those times are still decreasing with each run. I believe that the current times are just me getting the hang of everything and soon enough I’ll be beating those by a landslide too.”
He continued to revisit The Keys to Speed material to keep refining his technique and lower his times with the goal of climbing into the top 10.
“The Keys to Speed Was Right.”
Not long after our original interview he sent an email to share his latest progress:
“Hey Anthony, just a quick update here. I won a ton of multiplayer races in C class with contact but the first two I came in 1st place and beat a few very high level drivers by a landslide.
“Each race after was always podium except for the ones where other racers were trying to knock me off the track but even then I still managed to pull off one of the fastest clean times and scored close to podium.
“Keys to Speed was right. Every little bit. Any small amount of doubt left in my mind about the course vanished immediately with that series of races. I’ll keep you updated as I move up through the higher classes but I think you know what I’m going to say already, haha.”
A big thanks to Jon for sharing his story. If you are interested in reducing your lap times be sure to check out The Keys to Speed or look around the site at some of our free material:
